Drew Dober and Renato Moicano faced off in a promising lightweight scrap at UFC Vegas 85, with the pairing serving as the evening’s co-main event.
Moicano was entering the octagon following an extended layoff that saw him miss all of 2023.
The explosive lightweights started out hot, forgoing any sort of feeling out process and trading blows in the center of the cage out of the gate. As momentum began to swing in Dober’s favor, Moicano managed to secure a crucial takedown before controlling his opponent on the mat for the remainder of the round.
The second frame started with more of the same, as Moicano continued to assert his jiu jitsu prowess and ground dominance, flowing smoothly from position to position while raining down heavy ground and pound strikes. Dober would turn the tide, however, escaping to his feet before a clash of heads caused a huge gash to open under the right of eye of Moicano. Dober capitalized, controlling position on the ground and effectively stealing the round.
The fight would see a third round, one that was all Moicano. The Brazilian lightweight would defeat Drew Dober two rounds to one on all three judges’ scorecards, improving his record to (18-5-1) before stealing the show on the mic.
Moicano revealed that his 62-year old father had a child yesterday, that after fighting he would like to be a police officer or become a member of the SWAT team, and that something is wrong with America.
“People need to respect the f*cking law. Otherwise this great country is going to be a third-world country. And I don’t want that motherf*ckers,” Moicano exclaimed to Daniel Cormier following his victory over the lightweight knockout king.
Congrats to Renato Moicano and his dad.
