The Professional Fighters League has struck a deal believed to represent the first female from Saudi Arabia to sign with a major MMA promotion.
Hattan Alsaif, a gold medalist at the 2023 International Federation of Muay Thai Associations World Championships, has inked a multi-fight deal with the PFL, promotion officials announced in a recent press release.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed but Hattan Alsaif is expected to make her amateur MMA debut for the PFL shortly. Thus far, the 22-year old Saudi Arabian has competed in other combat disciplines.
“Receiving a contract from the PFL is a dream come true,” said Alsaif, quoted in the press release announcing the signing. “As the first Saudi woman signed to a global MMA contract I do not take the responsibility lightly, and I am committed to representing my country. I hope to pave the way for aspiring female fighters. I am thankful to God and the PFL for this incredible opportunity.”
The PFL is set to host its PFL Champions vs. Bellator Champions card in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia later this month. That card takes place Feb. 24, 2024 at the Kington Arena in Riyadh, with Ryan Bader vs. Renan Ferreira, both heavyweight champions of their respective promotions, headlining.
