Tom Aspinall Believed He’d Be Given “Freak Show” Fight With Brock Lesnar At UFC 300, Uncertain About Next Move

Since winning the UFC interim heavyweight title at UFC 295, Tom Aspinall has made it clear that he isn’t happy to just sit around and wait for the conclusion of Jones vs Miocic.

Current heavyweight champion, Jones, is still recovering from recent surgery making it unclear when he will return to fight Stipe Miocic. Despite the majority of fans not being on board with that fight, UFC President Dana White, is sticking to his guns regarding that bout.

Following his win this past November, Aspinall admitted that he wanted to fight on the upcoming UFC 300 event, but there wasn’t a particular fight that made sense.

In a recent interview with OLBG, Aspinall admitted that he was expecting the UFC to give him a ‘freak show’ fight with Brock Lesnar, or for them to try and figure something out with current light heavyweight champion, Alex Pereira.

“With the Jones palaver and all the politics around that, I was thinking they’d maybe give me some freak show kind of fight against Brock Lesnar, or maybe at UFC 300 they’d do something a bit out there like Alex Pereira but that doesn’t look likely now, I have no idea my next move, I’m kind of waiting about.”

The speculation surrounding Lesnar first surfaced amongst fans, as they began theorising who could return for the monumental event. It then went as far as UFC commentator, Michael Bisping talking about it on his YouTube channel.

Despite the wild speculation, Aspinall isn’t expecting to be a part of the UFC 300 event, although he has said he will be more than ready.

“I absolutely would be ready for UFC 300, I believe now it’s only three months away and I have been training twice a day since a week after my last fight, so my body is in good shape right now.

“But there isn’t really a realistic opponent. The only realistic ones would be Pereira or Lesnar and they’re not really realistic.”

The singular loss Aspinall has suffered during his UFC tenure so far, came against Curtis Blaydes, and that was due to a fight ending injury. “Razor” Blaydes is scheduled to take on Jailton Almeida at UFC 299, and Aspinall believes that is most likely his next fight.

“I think I’ll have a rematch with Curtis Blaydes in the UK. I’ve got one loss on my (UFC) record and it’s by injury to Blaydes. And if he wins his next fight – which is a tough fight – if he wins it makes sense to do me and him again at this point, because let’s be honest, I’m not going to get the Jones or Miocic fight the way it’s going. I like Curtis, but professionally he has a win over me and I don’t want him to.”
