Toronto, ON — It was not a good night at UFC 297 in Toronto for the Canadian men — but the women were a different story.

Jasmine Jasudavicius and Gillian Robertson were the two Performance of the Night bonus winners at the PPV event, which saw both Niagara-region fighters performing on the preliminary card.

Jasudavicius put on one of the most dominant performances in UFC women’s history with a lopsided beatdown of Brazil’s Cachoeira, who came into Fight Week so heavy it forced the bout to be bumped up a full weight class to bantamweight.

That “pissed off” Jasudavicius, she noted after the fight, leading her to pummel (or as she put it, “torture”) Cachoeira through the better part of three rounds. The fight was finally ended via submission in the third, with Jasudavicius setting a strike differential for the bantamweight division — a division she had never before competed in.

Jasudavicius now holds wins as a strawweight, flyweight, and bantamweight in her pro career, and improved to 10-3 with the victory.

Gillian Robertson has also been chasing, and setting records. The UFC women’s submission record holder earned a TKO finish, the second of her UFC career, against another Brazilian, Polyana Viana. Following the fight, Robertson told media outlets including Cageside Press that she was targeting the women’s finish, and overall (men and women) submission records.

Fight of the Night at UFC 297 went to the main event, which saw Dricus Du Plessis dethrone Sean Strickland in a hard-fought unanimous decision.
