Toronto – UFC bantamweight Raquel Pennington doesn’t get where Mayra Bueno Silva comes from with her trashing their fight at UFC 297 on Saturday night.
“Listen, she’s a character. All the things that’s she’s saying is like really entertaining me. What you just said is completely contradicting to what I’ve heard that she’s saying. At the end of the day I feel like she’s talking all the crap. She’s trying to say all the things,” Pennington told reporters including Cageside Press on Wednesday.
“Sure maybe the fans want to see her fight Julianna (Peña) because they both yap a lot. They talk. So everybody wants to see that. They love the entertainment portion. That’s just not who I am.”
Pennington isn’t about to change her character in order to appease the fans and have them be excited for their fight. For Rocky it’s about something bigger.
“I think about the kids and the younger generations who look up to me. It’s not about talking crap to each other and doing everything. At the end of the day a fights a fight,” she said.
“Our fists are going to do the talking.”
Pennington didn’t stop there. She went into detail about what she was being told prior to being booked for UFC 297 against Silva for the belt.
“I don’t know who she thinks she is right now. I’ve been in this sport for a very long time, I’ve been in top 10 the majority of my career in the UFC, and for her to sit here…it was supposed to be me and Julianna,” Pennington revealed.
“So for her to think that it’s supposed to be her and Julianna…I love the world that she’s living in her own mind,” she said.
“But she’s a little confused.”
