“Lazy Boy” Luis Rodriguez will make his promotional debut at UFC Mexico City next month, in a flyweight match-up with Denys Bondar.
Rodriguez (16-2), a former LUX athlete who has been fighting as a bantamweight, will be dropping to 125lbs for the opportunity against Bondar (19-4). UFC officials announced the booking on social media on Tuesday.
Mexico’s Rodriguez, 24, previously appeared on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2020, coming up short in a decision loss to Jerome Rivera. Rodriguez has not lost since, however, winning his next five bouts, with three finishes.
Denys Bondar, who fought just once per year in 2023 and 2022 and not at all in 2021, has lost both of his UFC outings thus far. That puts him in must-win territory heading into the UFC Mexico City match-up with Rodriguez.
UFC Mexico City takes place on February 24, 2024 and is headlined by another key flyweight fight, as Brandon Moreno takes on Amir Albazi. The following match-ups have been reported for the card thus far:
- Brandon Moreno vs. Amir Albazi
- Yair Rodríguez vs. Brian Ortega
- Manuel Torres vs. Chris Duncan
- Jesús Santos Aguilar vs. Mateus Mendonça
- Yazmin Jauregui vs. Sam Hughes
- Edgar Chairez vs. Daniel Lacerda
- Victor Altamirano vs. Felipe dos Santos
- Raul Rosas Jr. vs. Ricky Turcios
- Luis Rodriguez vs. Denys Bondar
