Las Vegas, NV – UFC bantamweight Cody Garbrandt knows he had something to prove at UFC 296 and he did it with a knockout victory over Brian Kelleher on Saturday night.
“I’ve been counted out my whole life. Luckily I had amazing mother, strong mother, that raised us and never let us quit anything,” Garbrandt told reporters including Cageside Press at his post-fight scrum.
“So thankful for her. The way that she raised us and the way that she made us strong. This world it can knock you down and keep you down. I’ve had that my whole entire life.”
At the end of 2021 Garbrandt had a rough 1-5 record, but then scored a decision victory at UFC 285 against Trevin Jones. The victory over Kelleher starts a new win streak for the former champion.
With a two-fight win streak Garbrandt could play it safe and take another bout against someone trying to make their way up to a title. Except ‘No Love’ is looking higher.
“I would love to fight Deiveson Figueiredo. I think that’s a great fight. Two former world champions now at the bantamweight division. That’s a fight that should have happened years ago,” he said.
“I was obviously taken out from COVID, but flyweight’s not my weight. Bantamweight is. I feel really good here so I would love that fight. UFC 300 I think that would be an amazing card to put us on.”
