The final UFC event of 2023 is upon us with UFC 296: Edwards vs. Covington arriving this Saturday at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
Headlining the show, welterweight champ Leon Edwards will throw down with the always controversial Colby Covington, in a match odds-makers have fairly even (Edwards being the slight favorite in most cases). It’s Covington’s third shot at undisputed gold — he previously held an interim title — following a pair of losses to then-champ Kamaru Usman.
What has not been talked about all that much is that with yet another loss in a title fight, it could also be Covington’s last shot at proper gold.
In the co-main event, Alexandre Pantoja makes the first attempted title defense of his flyweight reign as he takes on Brandon Royval.
Ahead of UFC 296, the full cast of characters featured on the main card were set to be on hand for Thursday’s pre-fight press conference. Notably absent, however, was controversy magnet Ian Machado Garry. The Irish star, who had been set to take on former teammate Vicente Luque in a welterweight match-up, had taken ill during Fight Week, with a case of the flu worsening, leading to Garry being diagnosed with pneumonia.
You can catch the full UFC 296 pre-fight press conference above. The live stream kicks off at 8PM ET.
