A card originally scheduled to take place in Shanghai, China, UFC Vegas 83 still had its share of Asian talent— though a number of bouts had dropped off the docket after the event shifted to the UFC Apex.
The hits didn’t stop there, as a bout first reported mere days ago between Carlos Vera and Daniel Marcos was also scratched during Fight Week.
What was left was the originally planned main event, and a short-notice co-feature. In the former, top bantamweights Song Yadong and Chris Gutierrez were set to face off; the latter found Khalil Rountree Jr. taking on Anthony Smith.
Rountree had originally been booked in a fight with Azamat Murzakanov at UFC Austin one week prior, but with Murzakanov out, Smith had stepped in, with the fight pushed back to ensure “Lionheart” could make the 205lb limit.
