Las Vegas, NV – Even though he’s not fighting in China UFC bantamweight Song Yadong is ready to go for UFC Vegas 83 against Chris Gutierrez.
Song still preferred to fight at home in China.
“I’m very disappointed about this. I really wanted to fight in China because I’m at home,” Song told reporters on Wednesday.
“It’s been like 4 years (since) I’ve been fighting in China. I want to (show) my family, my friends, all the UFC fans, all the MMA fans how I’ve been improved. Just make a good statement, a good stage and a good performance over there.”
He’ll have a willing opponent to show those skills in Las Vegas in Gutierrez who gets his first main event fight in his UFC run.
“I know a little bit about him before taking this fight. Definitely he’s (a) striker. (Has) good footwork. Switch stance. Nothing special,” Song said.
With two tough and durable fighters a 5-round war is very possible. Song still hopes for a quick finish.
“Every time I will say I will knock him out quickly,” said Song.
A victory over Gutierrez may get him higher in the rankings, but it may open up for a big fight. In his crosshairs is former bantamweight champion Petr Yan.
“UFC did indeed arrange for me fight Petr Yan in Shanghai, but they never gave me the contract. Actually we both didn’t sign the contract officially,” he said.
“Maybe after this fight I will call him out.”
