A women’s bantamweight showdown has been added to the UFC’s first event of 2024.
The January 13 event, which does not have a location, venue, or broadcast plan officially announced (though the Apex is likely) will be the landing spot for Ketlen Vieira (14-3) vs. Macy Chiasson (8-3).
Both fighters confirmed the booking on social media recently following an initial report by MMA Fighting.
Chiasson is best known for winning The Ultimate Fighter 28 at featherweight. She then dropped to bantamweight, finding considerable success with a 4-1 record while enduring grueling weight cuts.
More recently, Chiasson has been fighting at featherweight, where she missed weight once, and in her last fight competed at a 140lb catchweight. With the retirement of Amanda Nunes this past June, the UFC women’s featherweight division is no more, however, leaving Chiasson no choice but to fight as a bantamweight if she wishes to remain with the promotion.
Vieira is 3-1 in her last four, with the lone loss coming against Raquel Pennington. Prior to that, she had picked up a pair of wins over former champs in Holly Holm and Miesha Tate. In her most recent outing she claimed a unanimous decision victory over Pannie Kianzad.
The UFC’s January 13, 2024 Fight Night card currently features the following reported match-ups:
- Andrei Arlovski vs. Waldo Cortes-Acosta
- Norma Dumont vs. Yana Santos
- Marcus McGhee vs. Gastón Bolaños
- Bassil Hafez vs. Preston Parsons
- Ricky Simón vs. Mario Bautista
- Westin Wilson vs. Gabriel Santos
