With a fight against Chris Duncan falling through, Terrance McKinney was instead paired up with newcomer Brandon Marotte at UFC Vegas 81 on Saturday.
McKinney got back to his winning, and first-round finishing, ways in his last fight when finished Mike Breeden back in August. Marotte had spent his entire pro career to date with Combat Zone and CES MMA, prior to Saturday night.
While Marotte came in as part of the highly-touted New England Cartel, alongside the likes of Calvin Kattar and Rob Font, a debut against McKinney was never going to come easy. And it didn’t. In true McKinney fashion, he once against claimed a first-round finish — and early.
In the opening seconds of round one McKinney dropped Marotte with a knee in the clinch, which trailed a right hand. With Marotte going down hard, McKinney jumped on top with a barrage of ground and pound. Marotte tried to roll away, roll back, cover up, but ultimately he was done as he was just covering up waiting by the time the ref stepped in.
The final time on the victory for Terrance McKinney? Just 20 seconds, continuing his streak of first-round victories. His last 12 wins have come in the opening round.
Official Result: Terrance McKinney def. Brandon Marotte by TKO (knee and GNP), round 1, 0:20
