San Diego, CA – Plans rarely seem to go to plan but for Bellator featherweight Leah McCourt the script played out just as she planned it when she finished Sara McMann at Bellator 300 on Saturday night.
“What happened tonight is literally what we drilled day in and day out with Paul and Alice, my team at Next Gen,” she told reporters including Cageside Press at her post-fight scrum.
“It’s just what we’ve done for months and months now. It’s just hard work every day.”
There was plenty on the line for both McCourt and McMann with the featherweight title on the line on the main card later that night. The winner of that fight assumed to be the next challenger for the belt.
“A lot of people felt I won that last fight (against Cat Zingano) and the female featherweight title fight was tonight. Kind of had a bit of a chip on my shoulder. It should be me fighting,” she said.
With her fight won, and Cyborg victorious over Zingano in the co-main event, McCourt called her shot for the next crack at the featherweight champion.
“Yeah 100%,” she said.
That wasn’t the whole story for McCourt who mentioned that she has had a tough year leading up to Bellator 300.
“I could be here all day talking about it,” she told Cageside Press.
“It’s a lot emotionally. Obviously I’m a mom. I’ve been through a lot this year, but just keep trusting God and his plan, and keep believing that I’m here for a purpose. I just want to inspire people to just get up. No matter what sh*t happens just keep going. Keep pushing forward.”

Note: McCourt was brought in to the cage following Cris Cyborg’s win over Cat Zingano and is presumed to be next for the Bellator 145 title.
