Leah McCourt will look to return to the win column this Saturday as she takes on Sarah McMann at Bellator 300.
In her last outing, the 31-year-old lost a decision to Cat Zingano, who will be taking on Cris Cyborg for the featherweight title on the same event.
At the Bellator 300 media day, when asked if she believes she’d be next to fight for the title with a win over Sara McMann, she said ‘yes’ to put it very simply. In her last five fights, McCourt (7-3) has picked up three wins whilst losing on two occasions.
McMann is known for her wrestling pressure whilst “The Curse” is known for her judo and jiu-jitsu acumen. When talking about how the preparation has differed from this fight to her last, she said that “we prepared correctly in camp, we look a lot at my opponent and my last fight and what I need to improve on, what areas of my game I need to always work on and it’s not really doing anything differently, we’re doing the same thing we’re just getting better and improving and just bringing out the best of me when I get in there.
“I feel like I’ve never really shown my true potential yet and I think it just comes down to believing in myself and I got a lot of belief from that last fight and confidence from it, so I hope to show that on Saturday night.”
This will be just McMann’s second fight at featherweight since signing with the promotion from the UFC just last year. McCourt, meanwhile, has been with Bellator MMA since 2019, and has a 6-2 record with the company overall. The women’s featherweight title picture should be quite clear following their trip to San Diego, with Cyborg vs. Zingano serving as the night’s co-main event.
