The UFC was back at the Apex in Las Vegas with a solid one-two punch capping off Saturday’s UFC Vegas 79.
In the main event, it was the #6 and #7 lightweights in the promotion, Rafael Fiziev and Mateusz Gamrot, facing off in a key fight for the division. Fiziev was entering the bout after coming up short against the ever-violent Justin Gaethje, while Poland’s Gamrot, a former double-champ in KSW, came in off a split decision win over Jalin “The Tarantula” Turner.
The second half of the one-two combo in question came in the co-main event, which found Bryce Mitchell looking to bounce back from the first loss of his professional career against Hawaiian Dan Ige. Featherweight Mitchell was no doubt looking to prove it was just an off night against Ilia Topuria back in December. For Ige, the fight was a chance to further his push back into contention, as he entered the night on a two-fight win streak with victories over Nate Landwehr and Damon Jackson.
Mitchell was ranked #10, and Ige #12 in the UFC’s featherweight rankings to start the night.
