There were a couple of key connections to the MMA world at Saturday’s Misfits Boxing 9, yet another influencer-laden boxing event.
The card, which was set for the Vertu Motors Arena in Newcastle upon Tyne, England was headlined by Bellator MMA veteran Aaron Chalmers, a former reality TV star (Geordie Shore/Ex on the Beach) turned mixed martial artist turned boxer.
After posting a 5-2 record in MMA from 2017 to 2020, Chalmers jumped to boxing, and competed in an exhibition against Floyd Mayweather Jr. earlier this year in a “fight” that went the distance (no scores were recorded given the exhibition nature of the bout). 1-0 as a pro and with another exhibition match-up on his record, Chalmers was set to face Idris Virgo in the main event on Saturday.
Then there was Gabriel Silva, son of MMA great Anderson “The Spider” Silva, set to take on MMA personality Ben “The Bane” Davis in a match sure to get the denizens of Twitter talking.
