Las Vegas, NV — Following Noche UFC, strawweight Loopy Godinez has three straight wins under her belt, though none were has dominant as the performance she put on Saturday against Elise Reed.
A vicious arm-bar, relentless offence, takedowns that looked and no doubt felt like bodyslams — Godinez (11-3) put on what was almost certainly the most stunning performance of her professional career. And she credits that to changing camps, heading to Mexico to train alongside Alexa Grasso.
“I feel like the change that I did was the best I’ve ever done for my career. It showed. I feel it,” Godinez (properly Lupita, but better known as “Loopy”) said following the fight, speaking to media outlets including Cageside Press. “The way I feel out there before the fight, the Fight Week, it was something really special. Exactly what I did out there was exactly what we were doing every day. I want to watch the fight just to live it again.”
Godinez believes that with her new team, and her existing skill set, she can be champion some day.
“Yes 100%. I do believe I’ll be a champion out of that gym. As a fighter, I think I have what it takes to be a champion, and also I have the tools. The tools will be my team. And it’s not only me, it’s not only one coach or another coach or Alexa only. It’s a big family. You guys will be seeing a lot of fighters coming out of there to be UFC fighters and to be champions also. Because there’s a lot of talent there. Everyone works super hard. This is the best camp I’ve ever had.”
As for the nasty arm-bar Loopy Godinez locked in on Elise Reed towards the end of the first round, even Godinez felt the limb was mangled. “I think it’s broken, but her arms were so flexible. I don’t know how she did that.”
Reed did manage to escape, but Godinez recognized that things looked off heading into the second. “I saw her grabbing her arm in the second round to come out, but I don’t know.”
When it comes to what’s next, with three wins including victories over Cynthia Calvillo and former Invicta FC champ Emily Ducote, Godinez wants to stay busy. “I just want to fight, keep fighting, and hopefully they give me a ranked opponent if it’s okay for them.”
