DWCS: James Llontop Wants to Build Step-by-Step to Become a Champion

Las Vegas, NV — Finishing off the night at Dana White’s Contender Series this Tuesday was James Llontop, picking up a decision win over two-time DWCS competitor Malik Lewis.

The 24-year old had a couple of tough acts to follow, but as Dana White himself later noted, fought beyond his years to secure a UFC deal.

“I knew this was going to happen at some point in my career, and we were able to achieve it,” Peru’s Llontop told media outlets including Cageside Press following the fight. “We’re here in the UFC, and now another stage of my career starts.”

Llontop spoke about the pressure of fighting after strong performances from the likes of Steven Nguyen and Jean Matsumoto.

“The pressure is always there. I was able to see some highlights here and there of the fights. I think the red corner went 5-0. Every single one of the winners was red corner,” noted Llontop, adding after he confirmed that was indeed the case that “Very happy for them, and enjoy. Enjoy your night.”

Asked about a debut, regarding who and when he’d like to fight in the UFC, Llontop explained that “I can face any of them, of the best, I can go with any of them. I want to remain active. I just want to go step-by-step just kind of building our way to the top. I want to be a champion. And yes, if they want me to fight towards the end of the year, I can do it. Or start of the year. Whenever they want, we’re going to be here. We’re going to continue to fight.”
