Sydney, Australia – Nobody likes to be on a losing steak, but UFC featherweight Shane Young will look to snap a 3-fight skid against Gabriel Miranda at UFC 293 on Saturday night.
Young (13-7) had a little under two years between his last fight and the one before it. The performance Young put in was indicative of possible ring rust.
“When I got taken down in the first round it just felt so foreign. Ring rust. My mind was just blank for two minutes,” Young told reporters on Wednesday.
“Then coach was just like ‘Get the f*ck up!’ and I was like oh yeah, and I just got up straight away. I was like man I could have done that two minutes ago.”
Young is one of six fighters from the famed City Kickboxing team lead by UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya fighting at UFC 293. Camp has been a big deal for him coming into this one.
“It’s been phenomenal. We’ve had some amazing camps in the past when we all were on the same card and I’ve witnessed some great things in those camps,” he said.
“But this camp there’s been a few sessions where it felt like none of us…I guess it’s like you do the whole training session and you don’t feel tired the whole time and everyone’s just pushing. And you look around and everyone’s the same. It’s been a blessing to behold really.”
