The UFC returned to the Accor Arena in Paris, France for the second time on Saturday, with this year’s UFC Paris card once again headlined by heavyweight Ciryl Gane.
This time around, Gane was paired up with Serghei Spivac, a surging Moldovan coming off key wins over Derrick Lewis and Augusto Sakai, and who was 7-1 overall in his past eight fights.
Gane, meanwhile, was looking to bounce back from a disheartening, demoralizing loss to Jon Jones earlier this year. It was the French heavyweight’s second time falling short for the UFC’s undisputed heavyweight crown, after previously claiming an interim title.
Featured in the co-main event at UFC Paris on Saturday, former UFC women’s strawweight champion “Thug” Rose Namajunas made her flyweight debut as a pro (she did compete there as an amateur early in her career), taking on Manon Fiorot. With Erin Blanchfield the other standout in the weight class, the winner of Namajunas vs. Fiorot, with a big performance, could have an argument for a title shot. Especially depending on the outcome of Alexa Grasso vs. Valentina Shevchenko 2 later this month.
UFC Paris takes place Saturday, September 2, 2023 — following the card, tune in above for the event’s post-fight press conference to stay on top of all the latest developments.
