The UFC returned to Boston on Saturday for the first time since 2019 for UFC 292, headlined by a bantamweight title fight between champ Aljamain Sterling and the popular Sean O’Malley.
Sterling was making what could potentially be his final bantamweight title defense in the fight, with a move to featherweight likely next. For O’Malley, the fight was the culmination of a journey that had begun on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2017. Since that, the “Sugar Show” fighter had just a single loss (to Chito Vera, coincidentally also fighting on the UFC 292 card).
Most recently, O’Malley had defeated former champ Petr Yan, a fighter Aljamain Sterling started his title reign against.
In the co-main event on Saturday, China’s Weili Zhang looked to make the first defense of her second title reign against Amanda Lemos. Brazil’s Lemos had been something of a surprise pick to face Zhang, with fellow Chinese star Yan Xiaonan seemingly holding the better resume. As a result, Lemos had arguably been overlooked heading into the fight — though likely not by Zhang, who revealed during media day that she had known about the fight well before it became public knowledge.
Following Saturday’s UFC 292 card, tune in for the post-fight press conference to stay on top of all the latest developments. A live stream of the proceeding is available above.
