Once a collegiate wrestling standout at the University of Minnesota, South Dakota native Logan Storley returns to his old stomping grounds where he’ll look to assert his dominance against a game opponent in Brennan “Irish” Ward in tonight’s Bellator 298 main event.
“Storm” Storley’s lone defeats came at the hands of undefeated welterweight champion Yaroslav Amosov, a Ukrainian sambo-specialist that’s widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters on the planet. The former interim champion is eager to get back into the win column, and he’s hoping to do so in emphatic fashion with the crowd at his back.
“I think it’s a special opportunity. At first, when I first started coming back home for fights it was a bit more pressure. But now, at the highest level, how many fighters get to fight in their hometowns? So, I’m excited to go out there and put on a show for these fans. It’s nice to come home and put on a show for the people who’ve supported you,” Storley said.
It’s no secret that Storley will try to get this fight to the ground as early and as often as possible, as he believes his wrestling prowess will prove far too much for the erratic slugger that is Brennan Ward.
“I just got done with three 25-minute fights. That’s 75 minutes in the cage. That’s a long time, competing against the top guys in the world. It’s tough, but I’ve been in there and I’ve done it,” Storley said. “I don’t think anyone’s made [Ward] wrestle really hard. At the end of the day, it’s fighting, but when that doesn’t happen, then you’re gonna find out who can dig deep. I’m gonna bring the fight to him and we’re gonna find out who can push harder for longer.”
Logan Storley will be met by Brennan Ward in a five-round main event matchup at Bellator 298 on August 11
