Tatiana Suarez was faced with arguably the biggest challenge of her career when she faced former UFC women’s strawweight champion (not to mention flyweight title challenger) Jessica Andrade in the co-main event of Saturday’s UFC Nashville.
For Suarez the opportunity to face another former world champion presents the opportunity to bolster her resume and make a case to face the actual title holder sooner than later.
For Andrade it’s the chance to get a big win against a formidable opponent and a shot at the title with an impressive finish.
Regardless of who won this one it was clear that the women’s flyweight division would see the winner enter the conversation of title contenders.
Round 1 both women were wary of each other with Andrade relying on a kicking attack to stop Suarez from being able to grab ahold of her arms for the clinch and shot. Suarez used her length, kicks and punches, to keep Andrade at bay and stay away from the power of the former champion.
A couple grappling exchanges seemed to favor Suarez, but when Andrade got out of those she was able to land shots. Nothing heavy, but enough to put Suarez on notice.
Round 2 brought more of the same until Suarez got ahold of Andrade, jumped guillotine, and finished the former champion!
A new contender has entered the chat folks.
Official Result: Tatiana Suarez def. Jessica Andrade via R2 Submission (Guillotine) 1:31
