UFC Nashville featherweight Billy Quarantillo was seeking out the most Nashville song possible ahead of his fight with Damon Jackson this Saturday.
Quarantillo (17-5) put feelers out on social media, only for a local star to respond.
“I had the performer Jelly Roll and one of his guys comment on [the post], so I think that’s the route that we’re going with,” Quarantillo revealed during this week’s UFC Nashville media day. “I’ve been a fan of Jelly Roll for a while, last fight I was going to come out to one of his songs anyway, and we ended up switching, changing it up last minute. Just a high level artist like that commenting kind of sealed it for us.”
“Billy Q” believes he has the perfect track selected for his walkout, though he wasn’t about to give it away. He had much more to say about opponent Jackson, however, who Quarantillo sees in a similar situation to his own.
“I’ve got a lot of respect for Damon Jackson. He was kind of one of those guys that has always been hanging around the top 15, we both just lost to top 15 guys. So we both need this one back. I know he’s going to be super hungry.”
“He’s a father just like me,” continued Quarantillo. “I think he’s more of a specialist in the terms of, he wants to grapple, he wants to kind of make it boring, kind of ride out, look for a submission, try to get on top and do some damage.”
As far as his strategy this Saturday is concerned, “I think obviously the game plan is to keep the fight on the feet, or look for my own takedowns. He does give up takedowns a lot,” revealed Quarantillo. “And just wear him out. Do what I do, use my conditioning, use my pace, use my high output. Just put it on him, squid him up, and get a huge finish and hopefully a performance bonus.”
