The UFC’s October 14, 2023 Fight Night event has added a promising bantamweight clash.
Jonathan Martinez (18-4) is expected to face Adrian Yanez (16-4) at the event, which is likely to be housed at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight pairs up two rising young talents in the weight class, and was first reported by ESPN Deportes.
Both fighters subsequently confirmed the pairing on social media.
Martinez has been tearing through competition of late, having won five straight fights. That streak includes victories over Cub Swanson — a leg kick TKO that earned Martinez a Performance of the Night bonus — and Said Nurmagomedov.
The 29-year old appears to be hitting his stride, and will look to continue his winning ways against Yanez, who recently had a nine-fight win streak halted.
That setback came against Rob Font, and represented the sixth fight of Yanez’s UFC tenure. The popular bantamweight holds wins over Tony Kelley and Davey Grant, among others.
Martinez is ranked #13 in the UFC’s official bantamweight rankings, while Yanez sits one spot behind him at #14.
The UFC’s October 14 Fight Night card does not yet have a main event announced or reported. The following fights are currently attached to the event:
- Irina Alekseeva vs. Melissa Dixon
- Emily Ducote vs. Ashley Yoder
- Edson Barboza vs. Sodiq Yusuff
- Jonathan Martinez vs. Adrian Yanez
