Salt Lake City, UT – Getting a big fight on a big PPV in front of a sold-out crowd is great for UFC lightweight King Green, but getting it against Tony Ferguson might be the icing on the cake at UFC 291.
“I got a bigger name. I’m excited about that, to be on a bigger stage, finally in front of a crowd. I’m tired of fighting in the APEX. So I can really get this crowd moving,” Green told reporters including Cageside Press on Wednesday.
The fact that it’s against Ferguson has this feeling like an even bigger event for Green given some of the interactions he’s had with some fans recently.
“Everybody I talk to, ‘hey that’s my favorite fighter’ so it’s dope to get that. Now I get to kind of win the crowd over even more and show them my skills and why they should love me a little bit more than him.”
The matchup looks like one that’ll be fan-friendly with the scrappy stand-up styles of both men, and the willingness to engage in a war in the cage.
“I think it’s going to be a dope ass fight. I think it’s one for the people. This one’s for the people,” he said.
Even with all that being said Green is wary of what Ferguson brings to the cage given some of his past fights.
“You know how weird Tony is? If you think I expect anything you might be wrong. So I’m not expecting anything. It’s going to go how it’s going to go. Specially with guys with weird styles like Tony,” said Green.
“You don’t know what’s about to happen. I’m living in the time where it is. I’m living in it. Live in the moment guys. I’m going to be in there and just so into it that whatever happens is whatever happens.”
