Jonny Parsons earned his UFC deal on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2021, a rare fighter to earn a contract off a split decision win. After missing all of 2022, Parsons finally made his debut at UFC London on Saturday, paired up with Danny Roberts in a welterweight match-up.
Roberts, who had lost two straight, at least had the edge in activity— while Jonny Parsons had required an extra hour at weigh-ins to successfully make the welterweight limit.
It didn’t seem to matter in the end, however.
This started out as a typical Danny Roberts fight. “Hot Chocolate” Roberts and Parsons stood toe to toe and just slung heavy leather. Roberts’ hand speed was really eye-catching and he was ripping combinations. It was evident early on that Parsons had a tremendous chin, because he was taking all those shots from Roberts with no problem. It wasn’t the same for Roberts, however. Parsons, when he was landing clean it was hurting Roberts.
That would catch up with Roberts in the second. Parsons dropped Roberts at one point and even mounted him briefly. Roberts was in survivor mode and decided to just swing for the fences. It eventually cost him as he was dropped in an exchange and stopped right before the bell.
WHAT. A. FIGHT. 🤯
