City Kickboxing’s Shane Young will get at least one more go in the UFC, as he looks to snap a three-fight skid at UFC 294 in September.
New Zealand’s Young (13-7) will take on Gabriel Miranda (16-6) at the Pay-Per-View event in Sydney, Australia on September 9, 2023 (September 10 locally). The card takes place at the Qudos Bank Arena and is the first show of a four-event deal the UFC recently announced for the NSW capital.
Miranda confirmed the booking on social media recently, following an initial report by Laerte Viana.
Young, 29, has dropped fights to Blake Bilder, Omar Morales, and L’udovit Klein on his current skid. That has snapped a two-fight win streak for the featherweight, whose last win came in 2019, prior to the COVID pandemic.
Miranda made his UFC debut last September, where he was knocked out by Benoit St-Denis at UFC Paris.
UFC 293 does not yet have a main event officially announced — but the brewing grudge match between middleweight champ Israel Adesanya and top contender Dricus Du Plessis has been speculated on. Thus far, the following fights have been reported for the event:
- Kai Kara-France vs. Manel Kape
- Carlos Ulberg vs. Jung Da-un
- Viviane Araújo vs. Casey O’Neill
- Tai Tuivasa vs. Alexander Volkov
- Jack Jenkins vs. Chepe Mariscal
- Shane Young vs. Gabriel Miranda
