A key women’s flyweight match-up is being lined up for the UFC’s September 16 Fight Night card, which is being run to celebrate Mexican Independence Day.

Tracy Cortez (10-1) will return from a year-plus long layoff at the event, matched up with Canadian Jasmine Jasudavicius (9-2). The pair are currently ranked number 14 and 15, respectively, in the 125lb division in the promotion’s official rankings.

A source familiar with the situation confirmed to Cageside Press that verbal agreements for the bout are in place, following an initial report by MMA Junkie.

Since winning her way into the UFC on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2021 and joining the promotion the following year, Jasudavicius has posted a 3-1 record inside the octagon. She’s 2-0 in 2023, and most recently won a dominant decision over Miranda Maverick at UFC 289 that resulted in the Canadian from St. Catharines, Ontario landing the #15 spot in the women’s flyweight division.

Tracy Cortez remains undefeated in the promotion, and most recently won a decision against Melissa Gatto. That, however, came in May of 2022; Cortez was booked into a fight with Amanda Ribas last December, but was forced to withdraw for medical reasons.

The UFC’s September 16, 2023 event is headlined by Mexican champ Alexa Grasso, defending her women’s flyweight title in a rematch with Valentina Shevchenko. The following match-ups have been reported for the card:

  • Alexa Grasso (c) vs. Valentina Shevchenko — for the UFC women’s flyweight championship
  • Shavkat Rakhmonov vs. Kelvin Gastelum
  • Chris Curtis vs. Anthony Hernandez
  • Loopy Godinez vs. Sam Huges
