Coming off a No Contest in his fight with Nassourdine Imavov that the left him unable to continue after an accidental clash of heads, Chris Curtis has booked his next assignment.
Middleweight Curtis (30-10, 1NC) will face Anthony Hernandez (11-2, 1NC) as part of a UFC Fight Night event at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on September 16, 2023.
MMA Fighting was first to report news of the booking, with Hernandez confirming the bout on his Instagram story.
The September 16 date corresponds with Mexican Independence Day, and is expect to play host to a number of fighters with Mexican heritage.
Chris Curtis was part of the featured prelim at UFC 289 earlier this month, a fight that, for the second straight occasion, saw him the victim of an accidental headbutt. That had also transpired in his fight with Kevlin Gastelum at UFC 287 in April, a bout Curtis lost on the scorecards.
Hernandez has won four straight, with three stoppages in that span. Most recently, he finished Edmen Shahbazyan by TKO in the third round of their May bout.
While few match-ups have been reported for the UFC’s September 16, 2023 Fight Night card thus far, women’s strawweights Lupita “Loopy” Godinez and Sam Huges are also expected to face off that night.
