The UFC’s return to Nashville, TN on August 5, 2023 now has its main event.
On Thursday, UFC President Dana White announced on social media that the Fight Night card would be topped by a bantamweight affair. That fight will see Cory Sandhagen (16-4) throw down with Umar Nurmagomedov (16-0) — marking the first time since October 2020 that the Nurmagomedov name has headlined a UFC event.
Of course, that was Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 254 in Abu Dhabi, who would go on to retire following a submission victory over Justin Gaethje. For Umar, the UFC Nashville card will mark his first time headlining an event for the promotion.
Sandhagen, meanwhile, will be entering his fifth main event for the company, having posted a 3-1 record in headliners to date. Most recently, Sandhagen defeated Marlon “Chito” Vera by split decision at UFC San Antonio this past March.
Nurmagomedov is a perfect 16-0 and is coming off a knockout victory against Raoni Barcelos.
UFC Nashville is set for the Bridgestone Arena on Aug. 5, 2023 with the following fights reported for the event thus far:
