A women’s flyweight fight put together by a smartly timed callout, #15-ranked Miranda Maverick faced Canada’s Jasmine Jasudavicius as part of the UFC 289 preliminary card on Saturday night.
Jasudavicius, coming off a win over Gabriella Fernandes earlier this year, was 2-1 in the UFC to start the night, and getting her first shot and potentially breaking into the division’s top 15. Maverick, of course, would no doubt have something to say about that.
The fight started out with both women trying to find their range early, with each fighter landing some good jabs. They worked in the clinch early, with neither woman finding the positioning she wanted, and ended up separated. Jasudavicius landed a takedown after a wizard kick thrown by Maverick. Maverick was trying to find an armbar on her back but was unsuccessful. Jasmine was able to end the round on top in a dominant position.
Round two started off with both fighters landing some good right hands early. Jasudavicius landed some good knees in the round and seemed to be the more successful fighter in the exchanges early on. Jasmine was able to land another takedown and take top position, which eventually led to her getting into half guard. Miranda was never able to get going in the second round, with Jasmine taking her back and ending the round in yet another dominant position.
The third and final round started with more urgency from Miranda Maverick, who landed some good shots early. Jasmine answered with some huge shots landing at will against Maverick, trying to make a statement in this fight. Jasmine brought constant pressure in this round, fighting angry while Maverick looked concerned. Jasmine was able to get another takedown, which Maverick got up fairly quickly from, but Jasmine kept pouring it on to the end to end the round in dominant fashion.
Miranda Maverick was never able to slow down the pace of Jasmine Jasudavicius, which led to a dominant victory for Jasmine on the judges scorecards. That was a huge win for Jasmine, and now it looks like she will find the rankings after that performance.
Official Result: Jasmine Jasudavicius def. Miranda Maverick via Unanimous Decision (29-28×3)
