Sao Paulo, Brazil – UFC heavyweight Jailton Almeida is on a roll, and he looks to continue at UFC Sao Paulo in the main event against Curtis Blaydes.
MMA Junkie was the first to break the news. This will be the promotion’s return to Sao Paulo since Nov 2019.
The heavyweight main event pits #4 Blaydes against #9 Almeida in what could very well be an opportunity for one of them to solidify their place in the title picture.
Blaydes (17-4) is coming off a loss to Sergei Pavlovich in April. Prior to that he was riding a 3-fight win streak that had many thinking he could be next for a shot at champion Jon Jones’ title.
Almeida (19-2) ran through Jairzinho Rozenstruik in May finishing the striker via submission in the first round. He takes his 5-fight UFC win streak into the main event in Sao Paulo against the dangerous Blaydes.
The heavyweight title picture isn’t completely clear at the moment with many questioning whether or not Stipe Miocic will challenge Jones for the title and when. With Pavlovich also in the mix for the champion the winner of Blaydes vs. Almeida could make for an interesting run of contenders in the heavyweight division.
No other fights have been announced for the card as of this posting.
