A promising bantamweight bout has been booked for the UFC’s August 5, 2023 Fight Night card.
That fight will see the returning Kyler Phillips (10-2) take on Said Nurmagomedov (17-3), with the match-up announced by Iridium Sports Agency recently. The company represents Phillips, who has not fought in over a year in part due to a failed drug test that saw “The Matrix” fail for banned substance Ostarine.
Phillips’ six-month suspension ends in July, which clears the way for his August return. He’s 4-1 in the UFC to date, and coming off a win over Marcelo Rojo. Through his five UFC fights, Phillips has three post-fight bonuses, including a Fight of the Night against Raulian Paiva. He also holds a decision win over top 135’er Song Yadong.
Nurmagomedov had a four-fight win streak snapped in his last outing, which saw him lose a decision to Jonathan Martinez. Having joined the UFC in 2018, he’s 6-2 under the promotion’s banner with wins over Ricardo Ramos, Cody Stamann, and Douglas Silva de Andrade.
The UFC’s August 5, 2023 Fight Night event does not yet have a venue, location, or broadcast plan officially announced. The following match-ups have been reported for the card to date:
