ONE Championship has rebooked a key fight in its heavyweight division.
After being scheduled to face on another in both 2021 and 2022, Oumar Kane (5-1), better known as “Reug Reug,” and Marcus Almeida (4-0), a.k.a. “Buchecha,” have been booked once again for ONE Fight Night 13 on August 4, 2023.
ONE Championship officials announced the match-up on Monday. The event will air on Amazon’s Prime Video platform.
Hopefully, the third time is the charm.
A Senegalese wrestling champion, Kane is a massive fighter who started his career with ARES FC then immediately jumped to ONE Championship. His first three fights all ended inside the distance, but cardio issues were exposed in a loss to Kirill Grishenko when “Reug Reug” failed to answer the bell for the third round.
After winning two fights last year and going the distance in one of those, Kane gets another step up in competition against “Buchecha,” who is a pefect 4-0 to start his MMA career.
A decorated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitor, Almeida is a multi-time ADCC and BJJ world champion with a treasure trove of gold medals to his name. In his most recent outing, Almeida submitted Kirill Grishenko via heel hook — in short, on the ground with “Buchecha” is not where you want to be.
