Charlotte, NC — Despite being recently announced by the promotion for UFC 290, which caps off this year’s International Fight Week in July, Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Manel Kape will not take place as scheduled.
After days of rumors swirling, UFC President Dana White confirmed the news to Cageside Press during Saturday’s UFC Charlotte post-fight press conference.
Asked point blank if the fight was still on, White responded “You know what? That’s a f*cking great question,” before turning to one of the UFC staff present for confirmation. “No? I thought it was yesterday?”
The answer, apparently, is no, but even White is clearly aware of the roller coaster ride the fight has been on. After being reported weeks ago, prior to the promotion officially announcing it, MMA Fighting’s Guilherme Cruz reported the bout was off.
White shed a little bit of info on how it all went down. “So yes, then he tells some guy [presumably Cruz] no, then I hear again yesterday yes, and then he just tells me he’s moving up in weight,” White exclaimed. “Who the hell knows, man. Who the hell knows.”
“This is the nutty sh*t that we deal with on a daily basis around here,” Dana White added before wrapping up his appearance at Saturday’s post-fight press conference.
