Charlotte, NC — Alex Morono (22-8), winner of four of his last five fights, spoke at a UFC media day Wednesday ahead of his fight with Tim Means, set to open the main card of UFC on ABC 4.
Morono lost in devastating fashion in the final round of his most recent bout against Santiago Ponzinibbio in December. Morono was filling in on short notice and putting on a great performance before getting stopped in the final round, snapping his four-fight win streak.
On Wednesday when Morono was asked what he learned from his last fight he answered with, “I was doing really well in that Ponz fight, and actually got like, too comfortable. Learned a very valuable lesson.”
“So like as a fighter I learned to never get too comfortable in the octagon.”
Morono, who actively coaches fighters, also shared what he learned from a coaching aspect to better assist his fighters saying, “I always give a pretty awesome speech about like, not celebrating anything until that final bell has sounded.”
“If I make it to the third round in my next fight, expect that to be the best round.”
Morono stated he had no complaints on fighting for the UFC only adding that, “If there was any one thing, I would change its that I wish I could be a little bit more active.” Alex is coming off of being stopped and had a five-month layoff, and acknowledged that it was needed for him to recover. But it seems evident that the 32-year-old wants a certain amount of activity in the octagon.
“If it was up to me, I’d fight like every two months,” Morono stated during the UFC Charlotte media day. “Five months was okay, so long as I can get like, at least one more in this year, I’ll be happy. But like three to four fights a year would be ideal.”
