UFC President Dana White confirmed on Wednesday that Tom Aspinall will return versus Marcin Tybura at UFC London on July 22.

The highly ranked Brit, Aspinall (12-3), has been out of action since July last year when he tore his MCL, meniscus and also damaged his ACL against fellow contender Curtis Blaydes. That fight stood as Aspinall’s second main event in his short UFC tenure, and was in front of his own crowd.

Since then, the heavyweight has had surgery on the injured knee and completed rehabilitation to get back to the stage of being able to train full time.

In the time that Aspinall has been away from action, Marcin Tybura (24-7) has picked up two impressive wins over fellow contenders, Alexander Romanov and Blagoy Ivanov. As well as that, the Pole has picked up seven wins in his last eight bouts.

The foundations for this bout were lay back in March this year at UFC 286, as Aspinall took to the mic at the live Q&A, calling for a bout with Tybura.

He said: “Listen, I just want to get one thing straight. We need to secure another UK card for this year and I’ve got that big Polish dummy calling me out online, so if Marcin Tybura wants it, lets bring it back to the UK this summer.”

Despite Aspinall’s last fight likely being a title eliminator bout, it is unlikely that the 30-year-old will secure a title fight with a win over Tybura. A victory would put the Brit back into the win column where he will then likely fight for a number one contender’s spot.

UFC London takes place at the o2 Arena on July 22, 2023. The following bouts have been reported for the event thus far:

  • Tom Aspinall vs. Marcin Tybura
  • Molly McCann vs. Julija Stoliarenko
  • Yanal Ashmouz vs. Chris Duncan
  • FarΓ¨s Ziam vs. Jai Herbert
