The featured preliminary card bout at UFC Vegas 71 on Saturday saw lightweight action unfold, as Rick Glenn threw down with Christos Giagos.
It didn’t take long to play out.
Giagos, who opened the fight with a sharp kick, entered the night off back-to-back losses, while Glenn was coming in off a draw against Grant Dawson — back in 2021. Glenn had not competed since.
Aside from that early kick, Giagos targeted the body, while Glenn worked to find his range, adding a low kick of his own. The pair circled, and as they came together, a looping left hook by Giagos connected clean on the side of Rick Glenn’s skull. Glenn instantly went face down, diving into a pool that wasn’t there. The ref quick game in to make the save, giving Giagos a much-needed, highlight reel victory — his first since since a May 2021 submission of Sean Soriano.
“He’d never been knocked out before. I had to be the one to do it,” Giagos said following the bout, adding “boom goes the dynamite.” Glenn had not, in fact, ever been knocked out prior to Saturday, with his only losses coming by submission or decision.
“I’m here to stay,” Giagos would later tell Paul Felder in the octagon, noting that he was willing to fight anyone.
Official Result: Christos Giagos def. Rick Glenn by knockout (punch), Round 1, 1:35
