The UFC returned to Kansas City on Saturday, with Max Holloway facing Arnold Allen in the main event — making UFC Kansas City a key date for the featherweight division.
While Holloway was for the time being out of the title picture after three losses to current champ Alexander Volkanovski, the skyrocketing Brit Arnold Allen likely had a title shot in his grasp should he get past “Blessed.” Allen had compiled a 12-fight win streak prior to Saturday night, with ten of those wins coming inside the octagon.
Were in not for struggles with injury, in fact, Allen might already have received a shot at gold. Instead, he would need to knock off one of the greatest featherweights of all time, and most popular fighters in the promotion, to land a chance to face the winner of Volanovski versus interim champ Yair Rodriguez.
Also on the UFC Kansas City card, fan fave Billy Quarantillo took a step up in competition against the always-dangerous Brazilian Edson Barboza, anchoring the co-main event. Dustin Jacoby, Ion Cutelaba, and Clay Guida were also in action, while for some puzzling reason, a key fight between ranked flyweights Brandon Royval and Matheus Nicolau was buried on the prelims.
