Kansas City — Moldovan light heavyweight Ion Cutelaba is among those curious to see how heavyweight Tanner Boser looks in his 205lb debut at UFC Kansas City this Saturday.
That stands to reason, as it is Cutelaba who has been assigned to welcome the Canadian to the weight class.
“Everyone’s curious to see how he’s going to be at 93 kilograms, he’s coming down. I think he’s gonna feel really great and he’s going to be really confident at this,” said Cutelaba (16-9-1, 1NC) during Wednesday’s media day, asked about how familiar he was with “Bulldozer” Boser. “I knew about him, I saw his other fights in a different weight division, but I’m very interested to see what I’ll do, what I’ll be like in the fight against him.”
Saying that he felt “great, as usual,” Cutelaba consistently emphasized the he was looking ahead, not back, in advance of the Boser fight. “I’m prepared for a new battle, a new victory. So only forward,” he stated.
Asked about his recent string of defeats, against Johnny Walker, Ryan Spann, and Kennedy Nzechukwu, Cutelaba replied by saying that “Of course I took a lot of lessons out of those losses, but this is part of our job, right? To learn the lessons, to make improvements, and to keep getting up, keep working, keep moving forward.”
As to what fans can expect of him on Saturday, with his back against the wall, Cutelaba said simply “As usual, I’m going to come out and show myself, so they should expect the best.”
