A pair of flyweight up-and-comers will face off at the UFC’s June 24, 2023 Fight Night event.
Undefeated Japanese standout Tatsuro Taira (13-0) is set to take on Kleydson Rodrigues (8-2) at the event, which does not have an official location, venue, or broadcast plan announced.
Taira’s management company, Iridium Sports Agency, announced the news on Monday.
The 23-year old flyweight has remained perfect through his first three UFC bouts, defeating Carlos Candelario, CJ Vergara, and Jesus Aguilar in 2022 to make his presence felt.
Just three of Taira’s 13 professional bouts (and wins) have gone the distance. He’s also captured Performance of the Night bonuses in his last two trips to the octagon.
Rodrigues, who won his way into the UFC by way of Dana White’s Contender Series in 2021, is 1-1 in the promotion thus far. After losing a split decision against a shared opponent with Taira in Vergara, the Brazilian bounced back in February by steamrolling Shannon Ross in under a minute.
The only downside to that performance, Rodrigues missed weight for the fight, making him ineligible for a Performance bonus that otherwise would almost certainly have been his.
No other fights have been announced or reported for the UFC’s June 24, 2023 event as of yet, though that is likely to change in the coming days.
