Las Vegas, NV – UFC bantamweight Farid Basharat had a successful debut at UFC 285 where he earned a decision victory over Da’Mon Blackshear on Saturday night.
“First UFC win out of the way. I’m ecstatic. I’m very happy. I’m proud of my performance. I haven’t watched it back yet, but I can recall majority of the fight. My team is very happy. It’s always good to get the first one out of the way you know because everyone’s always telling me (about) octagon jitters. First one’s always a big one, and I mean it doesn’t get any bigger than this,” Basharat told reporters including Cageside Press at his post-fight scrum.
“T-Mobile, UFC 285, Jon Jones on the card.”
Octagon jitters are a real thing for UFC newcomers who haven’t had to deal with the bright lights of the biggest promotion in the world.
“I didn’t feel any octagon jitters. For me I feel like if you prepare correctly…jitters it’s all in your head. It’s all in your head so I prepared correctly with my team, and I’m very happy with my performance,” Basharat said.
With the first one out of the way the plan is get past Ramadan, and then figure it out after.
“It’s going to be Ramadan in the end of March that will last a month until the end of April. I’m going to go to London and spend time with my family during Ramadan. Then i’ll be back to Vegas and straight into camp. I think I want to fight maybe end of June, early July, I think that’s realistic,” he said.
“International fight week. That will give me a good amount of time to get my weight back down and get into training. Ramadan does offset your rhythm a little bit.”
