Strawweight action is lined up for the UFC’s May 13, 2023 Fight Night show.
Jiu-jitsu ace Mackenzie Dern (12-3) will face Angela Hill (15-12) at the event, which does not yet have an official venue, location, or broadcast plan announced.
MMA Junkie was first to report news of the booking. Cageside Press subsequently confirmed the match-up; Hill had previously announced she had fight news pending.
Dern is coming off a loss against China’s Yan Xiaonan in October. She went 1-1 in 2022, winning a split decision over Tecia Torres at UFC 273 in April. Though she’s been trading wins and losses of late, Dern had put together four straight wins from 2020 to 2021, putting her in the mix in terms of contendership.
Hill has won two straight, picking up victories over Emily Ducote and Lupita Godinez. Both went the distance, resulting in unanimous decision wins for Hill. That turnaround comes on the heels of a three-fight skid that saw “Overkill” come up short against Tecia Torres, Amanda Lemos, and Virna Jandiroba.
The UFC’s May 13, 2023 Fight Night card is set to be headlined by light heavyweight action, as Anthony Smith takes on Johnny Walker. The following match-ups have been reported for the event to date:
- Anthony Smith vs. Johnny Walker
- Jessica-Rose Clark vs. Tainara Lisboa
- Matt Brown vs. Court McGee
- Jailton Almeida vs. Jairzinho Rozenstruik
- Mackenzie Dern vs. Angela Hill
