A heavyweight clash featuring a pair of heavy hitters is set for the UFC’s May 13, 2023 Fight Night card.
Jairzinho Rozenstruik (13-4) will face off with Brazilian Jailton Almeida (18-2) at the May event, in a fight that brings together the #9 and #14-ranked fighters in the division, respectively.
MMA Fighting was first to report news of the booking, which Almeida later confirmed on social media.
Suriname’s Rozenstruik returned to the win column in December after finishing Chris Daukaus by TKO is just 23 seconds. The victory snapped a two-fight skid for the kickboxer, who has been with the UFC since 2019.
Almeida (18-2) won his way into the organization on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2021, and had a massive rookie season. In three visits to the octagon, he secured three finished, and was named our Newcomer of the Year for 2022 alongside Jack Della Maddalena.
The UFC’s May 13 card does not yet have a location, venue, or broadcast plan officially announced. The event is set to be headlined by a light heavyweight showdown between Anthony Smith and Johnny Walker. The following match-ups have been reported for the date thus far:
- Anthony Smith vs. Johnny Walker
- Jessica-Rose Clark vs. Tainara Lisboa
- Matt Brown vs. Court McGee
- Jailton Almeida vs. Jairzinho Rozenstruik
