Las Vegas, NV — Following a kneebar submission of Lina Lansberg that earned her a Performance of the Night bonus, Mayra Bueno Silva took to the mic and questioned why Raquel Pennington should get the next women’s bantamweight title shot.
Nothing has been written in stone, but Pennington has been campaigning for another fight with Amanda Nunes. Silva appeared to take umbrage with this, but speaking to reporters including Cageside Press backstage at the UFC Apex, she clarified that she loves Pennington’s style, and was talking a bit of trash to land the bout.
“Sometimes you need to talk bullsh*t for a good fight. And then, I thought hey, Raquel Pennington. Because I love Raquel Pennington, I love her style,” Silva (10-2-1) told reporters. “In the UFC, now I’m top 10 I believe. In top 10, every fight’s difficult, every fighter is good. And I think Raquel Pennington don’t have a fight.”
Silva did have another name in mind, a former champ in fact. The Brazilian just isn’t sure she’s ready to return to action. “I think Miesha [Tate], Miesha and me, okay, let’s go. But I don’t know if Miesha is good for a fight in three months. I don’t know. I think she’s hurt. And I think Raquel Pennington don’t have fight. If UFC wants, I want, because Raquel is a very very good, dangerous fighter.”
Silva also clarified that she has no real beef with Pennington, who has never said a bad word about her. Or any word, really. “I’m talking sh*t. She has five wins now, I have three. She don’t talk nothing. I think she don’t know I exist. But I’m here.”
And after her time on the mic Saturday, Pennington might finally have heard of her. “If she don’t know, now she knows.”
Between that, Silva’s three straight wins, with two submissions and two post-fight bonuses, a lot of bantamweights are learning who “Sheetara” is.

Mayra Bueno Silva was also busy courting Monster Energy as a sponsor following UFC Vegas 69. With more performances like her submission of Lansberg, she just might get her wish.
