Poland’s Mateusz Gamrot is stepping up on short notice to take part in March’s UFC 285 in Las Vegas.
Gamrot (21-2, 1NC) is set to replace Dan Hooker against Jalin Turner (13-5) at the PPV event on March 4, 2023. Fansided was first to report news of the booking, with Kanal Sportoway noting earlier in the day that Gamrot had something in the works.
New Zealand’s Hooker was forced out of the fight after sustaining a hand injury in training.
A former double champ in KSW (at featherweight and lightweight), Gamrot had a four-fight win streak snapped in his last outing by Beneil Dariush. Still, wins over Jeremy Stephens and Arman Tsarukyan among others have many bullish on the lightweight’s prospects.
Jalin Turner is currently on a five-fight win streak, and passed a solid test/step up in competition in his last outing. That saw him put away Brad Riddell via guillotine choke at UFC 276 last July — earning Turner a Performance of the Night bonus.
UFC 285 takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 4, 2023, with the return of Jon Jones topping the card. “Bones” makes the move up to heavyweight to face Ciryl Gane for the title vacated by Francis Ngannou earlier this year. Valentina Shevchenko defends her women’s flyweight championship in the co-feature.
