Flyweights Allan Nascimento and Carlos Hernandez faced off in preliminary card action at UFC Vegas 67 on Saturday, the promotion’s first card of 2023.
Technically the second 125lb fight inside the octagon to start the year (Charles Johnson defeated Jimmy Flick inside of a round earlier in the night), Nascimento vs. Hernandez played out even quicker.
The pair traded kicks early, while Hernandez got his hands going. But it was a front kick that appeared to hurt Hernandez moments later, leading to Nascimento closing the distance, securing a takedown and taking the back against the fence.
Hernandez, far from panicking, used the cage to reposition and fought hands. He would then make some key mistakes with Nascimento still on his back, going belly down then standing up, carrying the full weight of the Brazilian like a backpack. Nascimento got the arm right under the neck, and while Hernandez peeled that off initially, he was in a bad spot. With the body triangle in and the choke tight, Hernandez finally tapped, giving Allan Nascimento the first submission win of the year in the UFC.
