Cynthia Calvillo is headed back down to 115lbs after a flyweight run that saw her post a 1-4 record, with all four losses coming in a perilous skid that could have her job on the line.
Calvillo (9-5-1) is set to face Loopy Godinez (8-3) on April 8, at what is expected to be UFC 287. ESPN Deportes was first to report the news, with Godinez confirming the booking on social media.
Calvillo also recently announced she had signed a bout agreement, without revealing any specifics.
Lupita “Loopy” Godinez will face the highest-profile opponent of her career in the April women’s strawweight showdown. Most recently, she came up short against Angela Hill, losing a decision in their August match-up. Prior to that, Godinez had won two straight.
The Mexican, fighting out of Canada, made an immediate splash upon arriving in the UFC in 2021, setting the record for quickest turnaround in modern UFC history (7 days) and the shortest time between three fights (again in modern UFC history) at 42 days.
Overall, Loopy Godinez has posted a 3-3 record inside the octagon. The former LFA and BTC women’s strawweight champ also holds a win over Vanessa Demopoulos outside the promotion.
Calvillo most recently dropped a split decision against Nina Nunes, suffering her fourth straight setback. Prior to the Nunes fight, she had been finished by Jessica Andrade and Andrea “KGB” Lee, while losing a decision against Katlyn Chookagian.
Her only win as a flyweight came in Calvillo’s debut in the weight class, against Jessica Eye in June of 2020.
To date, only one other fight has been reported for UFC 287 on April 8, 2023. That’s a fan-friendly bantamweight bout between Rob Font and Adrian Yanez. No location, venue, or main event has been reported for the card thus far.
