A fan-friendly match-up booked for the UFC’s April 8, 2023 event has left fight fans with just one complaint: why not book it for San Antonio?
In a bantamweight showdown all but guaranteed to deliver, Adrian Yanez (16-3) will meet Rob Font (19-6) at the April 8 event, which has not yet been officially announced by the promotion. MMA Fighting was first to report news of the match-up, with Yanez later responding to fans clamoring for the fight to be part of UFC San Antonio in March.
“Sorry, San Antonio, our side tried,” wrote Yanez on social media.
Yanez hails from Texas, and is undefeated in the UFC thus far. The 2020 Contender Series winner has won a post-fight bonus in each and every single one of his UFC match-ups to date, with four Performance of the Night awards and one Fight of the Night.
Aside from a split decision with Davey Grant that won Fight of the Night, Adrian Yanez has stoppages in all of his bouts inside the octagon, as well as in his Contender Series fight.
That hot streak has earned the 29-year old a step up in competition against New England Cartel member Rob Font. After running up a four-fight win streak over impressive competition from 2018 to 2021, Font has dropped his last two — albeit against ex-featherweight champ Jose Aldo, and Marlon “Chito” Vera.
No other fights have been reported for the promotion’s April 8, 2023 event as of yet.
